June 2019

6 Nights

5 luxury full days in the French Alps featuring classic climbs, local routes and the legendary Alpe d’Huez with more than 21 bends which thousands of riders attempt to climb each year. Tick some key boxes off the bucket list, discover some great new climbs and relax in beautiful Samoëns.

This is a great cycling tour for climbers featuring TDF routes. Over 5 days you’ll climb the Alpe d’Huez, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col de Joux Plane, Col de l’Encrenaz, Col de la Ramaz, Col de la Colombiere, circling the great Mont Blanc as well as a great route around beautiful Lake Annecy. Each of the riding days are tough with some of them exceeding over 3,000m of elevation, but the payoff is riding in a stunning part of the world and ticking off some bucket list climbs.

Samoëns is the perfect town to relax after a ride with some nice shops, wine and beer, not to mention our beautiful chalet with its own indoor and outdoor dining areas, indoor sauna, outdoor pool and jacuzzi. Bring some strong legs and your granny gears if you need them for the ultimate 360 cycling holiday!

Route Overview

On arrival you will be taken to Le Bourg d’Oisans for a warm up ride before climbing the Alpe d’Huez. Enjoy the views and an overnight stay at the top before hitting four big days. Each day features several climbs with over 3,000m elevation.

Day Two   Alpe d’Huez A to B
Tuesday 18th
Starting early in the morning after breakfast we begin our descent off the Alpe d’Huez, passing through the quirky village of Villard-Reculas. The views from the cliff road between Villard-Reculas are mesmerising. Along the way we’ll stop in the village of Allemond where there are a few bars and cafes before cycling the Col de la Croix de Fer. The route combines steep, continually changing gradients with majestic scenery and Tour de France history. Our ride will finish in Albertville where our vehicles will be waiting to transport us to Samoëns. If you need to exit earlier there will be a pick-up option in Saint-Etienne-de-Cuines at 63km.
Ride Distance:  134.34km
Elevation Gain:  3,525m

Day Three Col de Joux Plane
Wednesday 19th
The col de Joux Plane is situated on the southern end of the Chablais, at an altitude of 1691m and has been used in the TDF 12 times. The route from Samoëns is probably the toughest climb in the Haute Savoie and the ride from start to finish is unrelenting, between 7% and 10%. Most of the climb is in Alpine Pastures with spectacular views as the road winds and snakes its way up. Near the top it enters a forest before opening up again with impressive views on Mont Blanc. From here we’ll stop for lunch before attacking the Col de l’Encrenaz and Col de la Ramaz on our journey back to Samoëns (Route A). Alternatively, take Route B for a slightly shorter and less challenging ride missing out the last Col.
Ride Distance:  102km
Elevation Gain:  3,184m

Discover Samoëns and the surrounding area at your own leisure or join us for a white-water rafting adventure starting at Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. Sample the local wines during an evening of wine tasting and get ready for the next day.

Day Five Route de Mont Blanc
Friday 21st
Leaving early after breakfast, this is a brilliant day route offering some very challenging climbs. After the transfer to Bourg St Maurice we’ll start our ride back to Samoëns attacking several climbs including Col des Saises (1650m) and Col des Aravis (1486m) arriving in le Grand-Bornand (an Alpine village with lots of character) ready for the climb to the Col de la Colombiere (1613m). With several wide open switchbacks, you’ll love the descends. The last 3km are the hardest with the final one at 9%. Taking in the magical views at the top, we’ll grab a drink in the restaurant before descending to Scionzier and catching our transfer back to Samoëns.
Ride Distance:  123.24km
Elevation Gain:  3,624m
