So what we have been up to?

Xabia Beachcamp – 27th September

This was our 7th Beachcamp to the fabulous resort of Xabia in Spain and another really successful 5 days in the glorious sunshine. We sure put our unsuspecting dozen through their paces, with Stand-Up Paddleboarding, running, cycling, basketball, swimming, kayaking, coasteneering, pump  and TRX classes, snorkelling, climbing mountains, a triathlon, volleyball, beach beastings, trekking, paddle tennis, massage, team hunted games and spanish dancing (phew!) all on the menu it really was excellent value. Quite a few have already put their name down for next year so do let us know if you fancy joining Beachcamp 8 in 2017!

Sportsaid – Charity Spins & the Burpee Challenge

Whilst we were away in Xabia, Ollie Lincoln and Chris Clarke kindly stepped in to host three charity Rock and Pop spins to raise money for SportsAid – thanks guys!

We also held the infamous ‘Burpee Challenge’ to see which Xabia attendee would take the crown. The winner was ‘Medusa’ aka the fabulous Marie Tilley with an impressive 136 burpees in 6 minutes. Together the Charity Spins and Burpees Challenge raised £73.15 for SportsAid. Thanks for your support.

SMA Trust Mud Run – Saturday 15th October

We have been so lucky with the weather for all of our events this year and, yet again, the sun shone down on us last Saturday for the SMA Trust Mud Run. We had over 120 people and many more spectators all out enjoying the fresh air and generally getting down and dirty! SMA are still totting up the proceeds but over £2,800 has been raised so far! Thanks to Blockley School for giving up their Saturday to provide refreshments – they raised around £400 to boost school funds so all in all a very successful day!

SMA Trust Mud Run @ Freestyle360 15th October

Have you booked your place yet? Entries close on 7th October, there will be no entries taken after this date or on the day so make sure you contact Mary at the SMA Trust to book as places are limited and over half have gone already! mary@smatrust.org or 01789 801155  Friends of Blockley School will be there too offering soup and cakes too to raise money for the school. All proceeds from the race go to The SMA Trust.

WHAT IS SMA?

SMA stands for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

SMA is a devastating, genetic disease. It is a leading genetic killer of infants and toddlers, with approximately 95% of the most severely diagnosed cases resulting in death by the age of 18 months. Children with a less severe form of SMA face the prospect of progressive muscle wasting, loss of mobility and motor function. But their minds are unaffected resulting in bright, intelligent children with varying degrees of physical impairment.

  • SMA is currently incurable and often fatal
  • 1 in every 6,000 births is affected by SMA
  • 1 in every 40 people is a carrier of the defective gene that causes SMA
  • the child of two carriers has a one in four chance of developing SMA
  • SMA affects motor neurones in the spinal cord. This results in muscular weakness, leading to severe disability and the possibility of premature death

SMA is currently incurable

10k Run – Sunday 11th September

The sun shone down on us on Sunday 11th September for our first 10k affiliated road race. 62 runners set off at 10am and all made it home including a man and woman in their seventies! We had some amazing feedback and raised a total of £265 for Blockley Primary School. Congratulations to winning man and woman Chris and Kate Krzywiec who came in with incredible times of 37.30 and 44.35 minutes respectively.

Xabia is here!

It’s that time of year again when 12 gym members are off to spend 5 days sunning themselves and drinking cocktails by the pool… NOT! You name it, they will be doing it, photos to follow!

Tim, Amy and Lorraine will all be accompanying the dirty dozen on their Spanish Beachcamp so please bear with us next week as we will be running the gym with reduced staff. If anyone has any queries please liaise with Tim Rew in the first instance (Tel 01386 700039 Email timr@freestyle360.co.uk) or Amy who will be answering emails from Spain (Email amy@freestyle360.co.uk)

360 Charities & Up and Coming Events

As well as raising money for Blockley School we have two other chosen 2 charities that we are keen to support.

This month we are raising money for SportsAid in two ways. Firstly, whilst some of our team are away in Xabia, we have asked two of our regular ‘spinners’ to take three spinning classes. Ollie Lincoln and Chris Clarke will be raising money for SportsAid by hosting ‘Pop’ (Ollie) vs ‘Rock’ (Chris) spin sessions. Please support them by donating generously to SportsAid.

Additionally, those out in Xabia will be subjected to a Burpees challenge. Boards will be up soon to show our very own Tim McCririck’s tips on the entrants and their current form! Please do have a bet on who you think will win – all money received will go to SportsAid.

The second charity we support is our local SMA Trust, we have raised lots of money for them over the years and have another great event coming up here at 360. On Saturday 15th October we are hosting the SMA Mud Run at 12pm Adults £10 Children £5. This will be your last opportunity to run the full 4k course this year. Tickets are limited and over half have already sold so don’t delay if you are interested. To book or for more information please contact Mary at mary@smatrust.org

Class Timetable changes

Julia Rose is unfortunately unable to continue with her Tuesday 10.30am class until November and will not be continuing with her Thursday 6.30pm Yoga. In place of this class we have asked Rebecca to start a new Stretch & Mobility class. Last Thursday was the first (free) taster session – the studio was packed out and the feedback was really positive. If you would like to give this class a go, it will be held each Thursday at 6.30pm, cost £8 to members and £10 to non-members.

Please remember that, whilst we are away in Spain, week commencing 26th September there will be no TRX classes and only the 3 spin classes mentioned above (Mon 26th 5.45pm Ollie’s Pop Spin, Weds 28th 6.30pm Chris’s Rock Spin and Sat 1st Oct 8.30am Rock vs Pop).

New timetables will be printed soon but in the meantime, please check the website for up to date information.

Well done!

As usual our members have done us proud competing in various events around the country. Congratulations to:

  • Ollie for finishing the Worcester Run Bike Run (Total 40k) in under 2 hours!
  • Chris Clarke for completing the Evesham Escapade Sportive (91 miles)
  • Paul Bradley and his team for completing  the Equinox 24 hour run

Good luck to all our cyclists entering the 4 Shires Sportive this Sunday and to Tim Rew and Peter Lee of Born who are competing in a Powerlifting Competition in Cheltenham this weekend.

Please contact us if you are (or anyone you know is) competing in any events during the coming months as we love hearing about your successes.

That’s all for this month folks!

On Sunday 21st August Rebecca Leakey (Deb James’s niece) is holding a charity BBQ family fundraiser outside at the gym from 4pm, there will be various music and rounder’s matches for everyone to join in. With almost 100 people running the obstacle course and many more spectators it was great to see the gym absolutely buzzing. We particularly loved seeing so many families running the course together and will definitely be holding more events like this in the future. In fact we have a similar charity day planned on Saturday 15th October, with all proceeds going to The Spinal Muscular Atrophy Trust so be sure to put that date in your diaries!
